| NOTE: Photographs taken today with the high mega-pixel camera show more than we sometimes can see with the human eye. Magnified close-ups show us tool marks and natural surface conditions that one normally doesn't see in the ordinary handling of the weapon. 1936 was the last year that Mauser used the traditional straw bluing on the small parts. Wartime production was starting up and demand required that the trigger, thumb safety, locking lever and magazine release were converted to salt blue in early 1937. The 1938 models were all salt blued. There is a "V" notched rear sight and stock lug. |

In 1938 Hitler was now in power for five years and Germany was without an pretense completing re-arming. In March 1938 Austria was annexed into the Reich and in September Germany, Britian, France and Italy sign the Munich Pact allowing Germany to march into the Sudeten territories of Czechoslovakia to bring the mostly ethnic German speaking people into the Reich. |

It is entirely subjective to give any Luger a rating of excellent or fine, just as it is to declare it xx% blued or strawed. Few Lugers are out of the box new and these are premium priced. Bluing percentages is like Beauty, in the eye of the beholder. We strive to provide pictures so you can judge for yourself if the gun meets your criteria. The interior of the Luger shows the dedicated care of the prior owners to maintain and sustain the legacy of the Luger. The barrel is strong with distinctive lands and grooves. The rear main axel pin reflects the 1933 order to number the pin and this one also matches the gun., |

Beautifully detailed and struck, the Eagle 63 on the barrel and all the matching serial numbers. 1938 was still a good production year for Mauser. |

The pistol shows the minor honest wear of war with shiny points at the high ridges where it came in contact with the holster. Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style. The serial number appears on the front of the frame, on the side of the locking bolt, on the trigger, on the bottom of the barrel, the side plate, the left side of the receiver, the safety bar, the sear bar, the rear connecting pin, and on the extractor. |
