| The holster is very clean with the stitching still "white" and strong. The holster's leather is still subtle and soft and with a brief brushing begins to show the natural shine of the leather. This is a 1942 dated holster in the black color of the field SS belt and the yoke harness. | |

Above left the SS trooper on the mortar is wearing the yoke harness and some of his equipment. SS Units not being part of the regular German Army had to made do with a lot of their own equipment and innovation was a key part of their effectiveness. They were the first army to adopt the camouflage uniform and the above motor cycle attests to the fast moving environment of the Panzer scout units. |

The holster is in excellent condition with original stitching, the leather is still pliable and serviceable. The belt is in like-new condition The holster contains an extra magazine that is not serial numbered to the gun. This is a nice rig. |

Left: A close up of the belt buckle. The German "MEINE EHRE HEIBT TREUE" is translated as “MY HONOR IS LOYALTY". This is an enlisted belt buckle of the Type II. These are usually 1939 manufacture and the polished silver was used for dress and the painted olive drab were used by the combat units of the Waffen-SS. The original cadre of the Waffen-SS came from the Freikorps and the Reichswehr along with various right-wing paramilitary formations. Formed at the instruction of Adolf Hitler in 1933, the Leibstandarte SS Adolf Hitler was the first formation of what was to become the Waffen-SS. |
|
The Waffen-SS ("Armed SS") was the combat arm of the Schutzstaffel. Headed by Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, the Waffen-SS saw action throughout the Second World War. After humble beginnings as an 8 man protection unit for der Führer, the Waffen-SS eventually grew into a force of thirty-eight combat divisions comprising over 950,000 men, and including a number of elite units including the SS-Verfügungstruppe, (SS Division Das Reich) and the SS-Totenkopfverbände, (SS Division Totenkopf). The SS was distinguished from the German military, Nazi party, and German state officials by its own SS rank structure, SS unit insignia, and SS uniforms. |

The inside of the gun is clean and reflects the effort for cleaning the past 40 years. Lugers that are stored for any period of time should have the wooden grips at least waxed on the inside to protect contact with the metal. The rear main axel pin shows the last two numbers of the serial number from the 1933 order to prevent their exchange between guns once worn. |

This is a "1942" dated Mauser Code bfy on the first toggle link with a "V" notch rear sight. The pistol shows the honest wear of war with shiny points at the high ridges where it comes in contact with the holster. The last two digits of the serial number appear. This is a rarer collector grade gun, not everyone will have one in their collection. This 1942 byf SS gun has been to war and still shows the craftsmanship with which it was built. |

Right: These magazines were supplied for mostly Mauser Lugers bearing the Code 42 or byf on the toggles and are exceptionally durable magazine.
The fxo on the magazine tells us that it was manufactured by C. G. Haenel Waffen-U-Fahrradfrabrik in the city of Suhl. The Eagle 37 is the German military acceptance stamp used at the Haenel Factory commonly called the Waffenamt. Proof. These magazines were salt blued/black with extruded steel, black plastic bottoms and a new zig-zag spring with the P.08 markings. |
