This is a 19120 DWM Chamber dated commercial Parabellum, dated and proofed for the Marine Academy, and issued to the the Nazi Navy. Fantastic tale told with the proofs. This Parabellum is 9mm with a 4" (100mm) barrel that is commercial proofed. Serial number placement is in the commercial ("hidden and exposed") style. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen." This example has all matching numbers. (1206) |

There has always been a debate about the MA designation. Kenyon in Lugers at Random calls the MA "Mauser Arbeiten" (Mauser Rework). Now this Luger has a 1920 military dated and no Weimar proof or re-work proofs. Then to add a little twist to the discussion there is the Crown N Commercial proof on several locations and the Luger is unit marked to the Ost See (Baltic Sea) to push the gun into the Nazi era. |

Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") and civilian (hidden style) style. The side plate and locking lever are numbered both on the side and bottom. This example has all matching numbers There is the DWM on the first toggle link with a "V" notch rear sight. The pistol shows the minor wear of war with shiny points at the high ridges where it came in contact with the holster. From WWI, through the Weimar Navy and then the Nazi Navy this gun can tell a tale. |

It is entirely subjective to give any Luger a rating of excellent or fine, just as it is to declare it xx% blued or strawed. Few Lugers are out of the box new and these are premium priced. Bluing percentages is like Beauty, in the eye of the beholder. We strive to provide pictures so you can judge for yourself if the gun meets your criteria. |

The Geladen (Loaded) has a red substance which probably was used in the Marine Academy to train the young cadets on the safety features of the weapon. On the right you can see the serial number on both the bottom and sides of the small parts. |

Here is the 1920 Commercial (Crown N) Luger marked in the military model, dated 1920 but no Weimar proofs, only the MA acceptance and the Kriegsmarine Baltic Sea markings. |
|
The magazine of this 1920 reached back to the ringed Navy magazine of the Imperial Navy indicating it too was brought from the parts bin to assemble the 1920 version. An extraordinary gun with this assembly of parts and proofs and the rich history of the German WWII Navy. |

Above: German WWII Kriegsmarine (Navy) Lugers were either marked with an "O" Ost See or "N" Nord See which meant the Ost (East) Baltic Sea or the North Sea. The alphabet preceded the weapon number in this case Baltic Sea #973. Just a fantastic Luger for the Collector of Navy Lugers that shows so many variations and being assigned to the Marine Academy. |

This magnificent collector's Navy with the plethora of proofs from at least three terms of service not only answers the question about the "MA" designation but shows a new twist with the application of the unit marking to the Marine Academy proof which meant this gun was assigned to war. This example of a early 1920 adaption of the military frame to commercial proofs under the eyes of the Allied Commission and assignment to the Marine Academy and then Nazi Navy is offered for $4,295.00 over-the-counter.
