NOTE: Photographs taken today with the high mega-pixel camera show more than we sometimes can see with the human eye. Magnified close-ups show us tool marks and natural surface conditions that one normally doesn't see in the ordinary handling of the weapon.  Photographs are copyrighted, all rights reserved, any extraction, reproduction or display of gun pictures without the express consent of the Phoenix Investment Arms is strictly prohibited. Serial number placement is standard military; front frame, under the barrel,  the side plate, the extractor, the safety, the sear bar retaining pin and the majority of the internal parts are serial numbered. The Mauser Code 42 appears on the fist toggle link and the "V" cut rear sight and last two digits of the serial number appear on the rear toggle.

It is entirely subjective to give any Luger a rating of excellent or fine, just as it is to declare it xx% blued or strawed. Few Lugers are out of the box new and these are premium priced. Bluing percentages is like Beauty, in the eye of the beholder.   We strive to provide pictures so you can judge for yourself if the gun meets your criteria.

This is a great example of a 1940 fully matching dated Mauser 42 code made for the Wehrmacht. The holster is P08 marked and dated 1942 with Waffen Amt proofs. Questions to Josef@phoenixinvestmentarms.com

Here is the Luger in full recoil with the rear main axel pin exposed. The frame is a Mauser frame as you can see the 2mm hump that Mauser built into the frames to protect the rear main axel pin. In 1932 the Reichswehrministerium issued an order that the rear connecting pin be serial numbered to the gun which was required by order in 1933. Above right are the two magazines with the Eagle 655 proofs.

The four digit (1940)  42 code began in 1939 with a transition from S/42 to 42 so by 1940 all the Parabellums were Code 42. Also the Eagle 655 stamp began to appear in 1939 and was seen on all the 1940 and beyond Lugers. About 20% of the 1940 Lugers had the plastic grips and the balance were wood. The Luftwaffe procured 30,000 Lugers in 1940 and the Kriegsmarine received approximately 2000 so the balance went to the Heer (Army).  In 1941 the four digit date changed to two digits (41).

Here we can see the early Mauser Eagle 655 proofs with the straight wings and the late Waffen amt (Ordinance) Eagle /Swastika acceptance stamp.  This Swastika was what gave collectors the sense they were the "true" Nazi guns but any of the Lugers picked up during WWII were Nazi used. On the right  you can see the two digits of the serial number and Geladen (Loaded) on the extractor.  This is a battlefield pick-up with the natural holster wear on the muzzle, side plate and rails.

Side by side you can see the proof marks on the left side of the receiver along with the Acceptance Eagle with the Swastika , the Eagle with the Swastika appears again on the barrel.  On the Right Above you can see the Serial number and the last tow digits of the serial number on all the small parts.

The holster has the original white stitching and and the leather is still subtle and  all parts are functional including the loading tool pocket and the pull strap.
On the back is the manufacturers cartouche and the 1940 date along with the Waffenamt stamp between the belt loops.  The holster has the white original stitching and the leather is still supple and all parts are functional.

The Wehrmacht belt buckle has a slight green haze from the camouflage that worn off over the years. The German Gott Mit Uns means God's with Us, something every soldier believes or hopes for in combat.   The loading tool is an Eagle 655 the same as the gun making this rig as an original issue.

This Luger has been cared for over 71 years now and it is looking for a good home.  In 1932 the Reichswehrministerium issued an order that the rear connecting pin be serial numbered to the gun.  You can also see a fine examples of the fire-blued pin. This is a short frame with the short sear and the rear has been added to 2mm to protect the rear main axel pin from coming out in full recoil.
