This is a 9mm weapon with all the matching parts marked in the military manner (exposed). This is a 1914 Model, chamber dated 1916 DWM 8" model with the 800 meter adjustable rear sight mounted on the barrel. This 200mm barreled artillery model is all matching, including the stock to the match the gun and the magazines all match.   This dated full rig shows up in this condition once ever 40 years.

The original intent was to issue the 8" weapon to gun boat crews but it then became standard issue to machine gun crews and artillery units. The frame has the stock lug and the thumb safety. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen".  The barrel is numbered and proofed to the weapon. The inside of the gun is clean and well cared for.

The frame has the stock lug and the thumb safety. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen".  The barrel is numbered and proofed to the weapon. The inside of the gun is clean and well cared for. The serial numbers are marked in the "military manner" meaning they are exposed on the parts. This Luger has all matching parts.

The original purpose of the Pistole Lange or Long Pistol was to protect the machine gun and artillery crews who had to move to the front carrying a massive amount of equipment and ammunition plus their rifle. The concept of the removable stock carbine worked well for these troops giving them the ability to hit longer range targets and with the trommel magazine have 32 round ready to go.

The front of the holster is in excellent condition with white stitching and the leather is still subtle and pliable to the touch. On the front bottom is the indentation from the stock attachment which can be better observed below with the fully assembled stock.  The back of the holster shows us the stock block that fits inside the stock with the shoulder straps to bring it all together.  A magnificently preserved piece of leather.

Included in this offering is the all matching Artillery Luger, the matching stock, two matching magazines in the dual pouch, a cleaning rod and a proofed loading tool. This is a complete rig with all the tools and  the magazine pouch.

The interior of the flap shows us the manufacturers cartouche and the 1916 date plus the Imperial Quartermaster Acceptance in the 4th Region. The loader pocket is firmly stitched and contains the proofed loading tool.  Below the stock is Crown S stamped as is the end of the barrel of the cleaning rod.  This is an original cleaning rod that rotates on the spindle.

Sometimes in examination people think the leaf site is bent.  However, when raising the site to the full 800 meter position reveals a 7° left movement.  This design compensates for the rifling on the 200 mm barrel which gives the bullet a twist in flight and if properly adjusted will permit a corrected point of impact.  Another example of Luger engineering.    The stock iron is serial numbered to the gun and the original cup still has the lining in it to preserve the finish on the iron.

The Imperial proofs are well struck and tell the story of the gun.  The barrel inside is shiny with distinctive lands and grooves.  The magazine is clean and grips match the gun. This 96 year old Parabellum shows minor holster wear one would expect on the muzzle, rails and side plate. The barrel is strong with distinctive lands and grooves. The stock and leather accessories are excellent.

The difference in the stitching on the rear of the magazine pouch differentiates the police, artillery and navy configurations.  The police were stitched at the top and bottom to allow for the belt to slide through.  The artillery and navy pouches were "L" stitched in the corners so the carrying strap could be mounted either way.

Above: The magazine and the front of the receiver and barrel show the full serial number of the gun and establish this is an all matching gun. Military Lugers were numbered 1-10000 and then 1a-10000a, 1b-1000b, and so on. To properly identify your Luger always use the full serial number with the alphabet identifier.

The stamps in  the holster are the military acceptance stamps.  Both have a manufacturers cartouche and are dated 1916. The magazine are both matched and "+" stamped as second magazines. Three matching magazines make this a really hard to find piece.

The serial numbers are marked in the "military manner" meaning they are exposed on the parts. This Luger has all matching parts. The low 4 digit serial number without a suffix puts this Parabellum in the early part of 1916. This is a great collector grade weapon, low serial number, all matching,  and a wonderful addition to anyone's collection.

Here again is a picture of some Imperial German soldiers wearing the Pistole Lange on the shoulder strap sitting with their commander.

This is a very well preserved 1916 Dated Artillery.  Given that it was probably two years at war and then at the Armistice was carried home by the 1st owner and duly cleaned and oiled over the years by many caring custodians.  We never own a Luger, own take care of it for its succession.

The  1916  dated  Artillery had the adjustable front sight which was turned to adjust the zero of the gun. These are usually very difficult today to move and fracture many of the brass tools proved the armorer to adjust the sight.

It is entirely subjective to give any Luger a rating of excellent or fine, just as it is to declare it xx% blued or strawed. Few Lugers are out of the box new and these are premium priced. Bluing percentages is like Beauty, in the eye of the beholder.  We strive to provide pictures so you can judge for yourself if the gun meets your criteria.

The matching gun and stock are very difficult to find. This 1914 DWM Model dated 1916 in excellent condition with all the basic Imperial proofs in very good condition with three matching magazines.
