This is a  1939 Chamber dated Mauser Banner. This appears to be a commercial Mauser that has been numbered for the military and issued to a high party official making is a very unusual specimen. This Parabellum is 9mm with a 4" (100mm) barrel that is proofed and serial numbered to the gun.  Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen."  This example has all matching numbers. It comes with two matching magazines, a  loading tool and a Party Leader Belt, Buckle and chest strap, in marvelous condition.  (1327)

NOTE: Photographs taken today with the high mega-pixel camera show more than we sometimes can see with the human eye. Magnified close-ups show us tool marks and natural surface conditions that one normally doesn't see in the ordinary handling of the weapon.  Photographs are copyrighted, all rights reserved, any extraction, reproduction or display of gun pictures without the express consent of the Phoenix Investment Arms is strictly prohibited.  Please read "Legal" for all the terms of the sale. Thank you for your cooperation.

Note the Wide Belt and Buckle worn by Der Fuehrer and the other high party officials.

Mauser began military production in 1934 with the "K" date Luger and then in 1935 the designation was "G". This entire effort was to confuse the allies with the number and manufacture of armaments. The manufacture code for these Lugers until mid-1939 was S/42.

Commercial and contract Lugers on the other hand were produced under the Mauser Banner and did not have Waffenamt proofs. Utilizing the Crown N or Crown U proofs these guns were of a distinctive better quality than the military Lugers.

Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen."  This example has all matching numbers. The magazines are exceptionally clean and the frame has a stock lug.

Serial number placement is unusual in that although an early "Banner" the side plate, the extractor, the safety, the sear bar retaining pin and the majority of the internal parts are serial numbered.

The Mauser Banner appears on the fist toggle link and the "V" cut rear sight and last two digits of the serial number appear on the rear toggle.  Collectors refer to this model as 1934 to represent the year that Mauser created the machinery for their production run of the Luger. So this 1939 dated 1934 Model is an early Mauser variation and excellent example of craftsmanship before wartime production began.

This is a 1934 Model Pistole 08 military gun manufactured by Mauser in 1939. This Parabellum is a 4 inch (100 mm) barrel in 9mmx19mm made on the "short frame" with short sear. This Luger is offered with the entire rig (see above) for a SA High Party Official.  This is a "rig" that was brought back by an foot soldier from WWII.

The barrel is matched to the gun with the serial number and the suffix of "W" placing this at the latter part of this series.  Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style.   The serial number appears on the front of the frame, on the side of the locking bolt, on the trigger, on the bottom of the barrel, the side plate,  the left side of the receiver, the safety bar, the sear bar, the rear connecting pin, and on the extractor.

The extractor [GELADEN - Loaded] rises above the breach block to both visually and by feel (in the dark) that the gun is loaded and ready for action. The right side shows no military proofs (confirming a commercial intention for this Parabellum)  Beginning in 1939 the Waffen Amt was changed to a straight wing eagle with a Swastika and place on the right receiver and barrel  giving rise to the Nazi marked guns; not present on the commercial Mauser Banners keeping it a clean and minty look.

The Mauser 'Banner' was built as a commercial gun and did not undergo the military stage proofing as evidenced by the absence of proofs on  the right of the receiver. On the left side is the Crown U [Oberndorf] proof from the civilian proof house after which the gun was pulled from stock and sold to some organization who ordered them numbered within the contract.

Hitler inspecting with his senior officers. Note the wide belts and open buckles of the senior staff and party leaders.  Most are carrying their respective ceremonial daggers instead of a firearm.

The back side of the WWII German holster was the designated place for proofing. Here between the belt loops one can find the manufactures cartouche, the date (1939) ans the Waffenamt stamp of miitary acceptance.

Holsters have a story of their own. In WWI and the Weimar Republic all the leather was brown. During the emergence of the SA and Hitler's rise to power the brown leather left over from the German loss of her colonies in Afrika for reparations these leatherwear became surplus and was adopted by the military. The Army [Heer] converted in 1934 and many of the old holsters were died black making the brown holster a rarity.

Above Left: There are two matching magazines in rolled and crimped blued metal with a one pin aluminum bottom that is serial numbered to the gun. Also note the felt lining in the dress belt that accompanies this rig  Above Right is the original pebble faced buckle and hardware that adorns this rig.   Very few of these were issued and less showed up captured and brought to the US

This is a very  clean Parabellum which probably spent most of it's life between parades and ceremonies hanging on an office wall. Banners always showed the Mauser's craftsman's skills as to the extra work going into a commercial gun.

A] The serial number appears "exposed" on the locking lever and B] on the trigger.  C] There is no numbers on the rear main axel pin although to military versions after 1932 when the Reichswehrministerium issued an order that the rear connecting pin be serial numbered. D] the matching small parts appear with the last two digits of the serial number including the sear bar. E] The Crown U (Oberndorf) Mauser commercial proof.

An undershot of the trigger housing shows the serial number on the bottom of the barrel, the front of the frame, on the side of the receiver, the locking lever and side plate. Above the four digit number on the receiver is the Crown U (Oberndorf) proof house proof.  Above Right: The grips have the last two digits of the serial number stamped inside.

The Mauser Banner appears on the fist toggle link and the "V" cut rear sight and last two digits of the serial number appear on the rear toggle.  Serial numbers appear on the firing pin, breech block along with another military acceptance stamp and on the toggle bolt axle pin.

This is a marvelously clean example a Mauser that is seldom found.  It has approximately 99% deep blue with no import marks. While some people say that Mauser used a secret salt blue formula in their early production and others say it was the original rust blue.  There is evidence that in 1937 Mauser changed from rust bluing to a salt blue process which was a heated chemical process.  The minerals in the metal reacted in different tones to this bluing process giving some parts a rust blue look.

Here is a minty 1939 Mauser commercial Banner that was a contract purchase from Mauser by the German military.  This rig consists of a full matching 1939 Mauser Banner, a 2nd matching magazine, a 1939 dated and proofed brown leather holster  along with a felt lined Party Leader belt & chest strap with all the keepers intact. This Luger is identified as a curio and can be send directly to C&R licensees and above.   Questions to: josef@phoenixinvestmentarms.com We reserve the right to prior sale over the counter and withdrawal from the web site without notice.
