This is a 1917 DWM Chamber dated Artillery framed Parabellum, reconditioned and proofed for the Marine Academy, issued to the Weimar Navy and then the Nazi Navy. Fantastic tale told with the proofs. This Parabellum is 9mm with a 4" (100mm) barrel that is proofed and serial numbered to the gun.  Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen."  This example has all matching numbers.  (951)  This Luger is not for sale.

There has always been a debate about the MA designation. Kenyon in Lugers at Random calls the MA "Mauser Arbeiten" (Mauser Rework). Now this Luger has a Weimar stamp on both the barrel and receiver. Then to add a little twist to the discussion there is the swastika applied, it appears separately because of placement on the receiver and barrel is slightly different, to push the gun into the Nazi era.

Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen."  This example has all matching numbers  There is the DWM on the first toggle link with a "V" notch rear sight.  The pistol shows the minor wear of war with shiny points at the high ridges where it came in contact with the holster. From WWI, through the Weimar Navy and then the Nazi Navy this gun can tell a tale.

It is entirely subjective to give any Luger a rating of excellent or fine, just as it is to declare it xx% blued or strawed. Few Lugers are out of the box new and these are premium priced. Bluing percentages is like Beauty, in the eye of the beholder.   We strive to provide pictures so you can judge for yourself if the gun meets your criteria.

This is an excellent Luger in very clean and well cared for condition despite it's assignment as an artillery in WWI, a Weimar Navy during the 20"s, assignment to the Marine Academy and then Nazi Navy.

Here you can see the proofs on the right and left side of the receiver.  Truly a long path this Parabellum served and still in fine condition.

The magazine proof of the Eagle 63 with spread wings puts it into the 1930's and was probably matched to the gun when it entered the German Kriegsmarine in WWII.   Also the weapon number was inscribed by most likely the unit armorer which matches the number on the back strap.

Above:  Not only is the back strap marked with the Nazi North (Nordsee) Sea "N" weapon number along with the magazine but the stock lug is also proofed with the M (Marinen) and Anchor of the Weimar Navy.

Just a fantastic Luger for the Collector of Navy Lugers that shows so many variations and being assigned to the Marine Academy.

This magnificent collector's Navy with the plethora of proofs from at least three terms of service not only answers the question about the "MA" designation but shows a new twist with the application of the Swastika to the MA proof.
