This is a 1922 undated model DWM (Deutsches Waffen Und Munitionsfabriken Co) Manufactured Pistole-08. This was a commercial five digit serial numbered Luger for export to the US in 7.65mm (.30 Cal Luger).  It is a fine example of the post war craftsmanship of the DWM factory as they attempted to restore their pre-war customers.   [2187]

NOTE: Photographs taken today with the high mega-pixel camera show more than we sometimes can see with the human eye. Magnified close-ups show us tool marks and natural surface conditions that one normally doesn't see in the ordinary handling of the weapon.  Photographs are copyrighted, all rights reserved, any extraction, reproduction or display of gun pictures without the express consent of the Phoenix Investment Arms is strictly prohibited. Thank you for your cooperation.  Please read "Legal" for all the terms of the sale.

This weapon has the stock lug and clean walnut grips. The extractor is marked "Loaded" on the left side and the safety is marked "Safe" with the safe position being downward.  The gun is very clean showing slight  wear on the muzzle, the side plate and front part of rails. The grips are checkered walnut and are tight to the gun.

The 1922 Commercial Luger is characterized by the 7.65mm  4" (98mm) barrel,  the rear "V" cut fixed and front dovetailed sight and the frame with the stock lug.  Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style; displayed on the left side of the receiver, the side plate, the locking bolt, the sear bar safety, the extractor, the forward toggle link, the front of the frame, under the barrel, and on the side of the trigger.

After the end of WWI and the weapons limitations imposed by  the Treaty of Versailles DWM began limited production. The nominal "Commercial" serial number range began around #75,000 and contained many 1920 and 1921 Lugers in both 7.65mm and 9mm.

The dated Lugers in 9mm are mostly found in the no-suffix or "a" and 'b" suffix and bear the Eagle AYA4 or Eagle WaA4.   The 1926 Proofs (Eagle Waffen Amt office 4) indicate Lugers that were produced in the late 1920's but dated 1921 to fool the Versailles Control Commission.

Here you can see the inside of the gun is clean and the magazine is the correct blued style for the 1920's when it was re-issued as a commercial Luger. Here you can see the inside of the gun is clean;  the magazine is the correct blued style for the 1920's See Kenyon's Lugers at Random, Page 202

The Safe and Loaded are Lugers are among the basic collector Parabellum. Made for the American market before the Stoeger contracts these were not plentiful and today are becoming harder to obtain. Note the "Germany"export stamp under the serial number.

This Luger is is all matching with the Germany stamp under the five digit serial number. The blank magazine is characteristic of the commercial models made both before and after WWI.

The inside of the gun is as clean and well maintained as the exterior. you can see all the matching serial numbers on all the small parts and the short sear stop of the post 1915 models, the thumb safety down (Safe) in English meant for sale in the U.S.
THE STORY OF THE PROOFS - Most Lugers tell you where they have been and when.  This Luger appears to have been manufactured in 1922 but has been not been stamped with any date making it a commercial version. This is a .30 Cal Luger weapon with all the matching parts serial numbered in the commercial manner (hidden).  The commercial Crown N proofs are well struck and tell the story of the gun.
The barrel length is 4" (98mm) and is chambered for 7.65mm.  The serial number appears on the front of the frame, on the left side of the receiver, under the barrel and the last two digits on most small parts. All serials matching. The Crown N proof (Nitro) was the commercial proof of the German Government until the Nazi regime took power. )The barrel inside is shiny with distinctive lands and grooves.  The magazine is clean and blank marked (commercial), as other commercial Lugers.
It is entirely subjective to give any Luger a rating of excellent or fine, just as it is to declare it xx% blued or strawed. Few Lugers are out of the box new and these are premium priced. Bluing percentages is like Beauty, in the eye of the beholder.  We strive to provide pictures so you can judge for yourself if the gun meets your criteria

This Parabellum, all matching, is offered for $3,295.00 over-the-counter with the reservation that the gun may be sold before being posted as such on the internet. One of the early post-war Luger's designed to be shipped to English speaking countries before the Stoeger contract in the later  '20's, This handgun is C&R eligible and can be transferred/sold in California because C&R handguns are exempt from the roster.
