1914 DWM Commercial Military Luger

This is a fantastic example of the 1914 Commercial Army Model DWM (Deutsches Waffen Und Munitionsfabriken Co) Manufactured Pistole-08. During 1914 some Commercial 9mm Parabellums were diverted to military service.  These do not bear the commercial proofs but have the Army Test Proofs.  (922)

This is a 9mm. 4 in (100mm) barrel, all matching Parabellum. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen."  The first toggle link is marked with the DWM monogram, and there is the "V" rear sight on the last toggle link. The frame has a stock lug which distinguishes it from the 1908 Commercial Army.

Serial number placement is in the civilian ("hidden") style; displayed on the side plate, the locking bolt, safety,  the front of the frame, under the barrel, and on the side of the trigger and 2nd toggle link.  This example has all matching numbers; the magazine is correct and has no number as a commercial.

The 1914 Model Luger is characterized by the 9mm  4" (100mm) barrel,  the rear "V" cut fixed and front dovetailed sight and the frame with the stock lug. These series of Lugers were produced from 1914 until 1918 for the German Military.  The DWM monogram markings appear on the 1st toggle link and the extractor is marked 'Geladen' (Loaded). The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen."

At the outbreak of WWI the German Army seemed reasonably equipped with the Luger Pistol. The DWM factory in Berlin moved to peak production by 1915 and were producing 700 Parabellums per day.

The combined production for DWM  during the war years is only estimated at 740,000.  This was extraordinary for this period when each Luger was individually machined and hand fitted and proofed. The war destroyed vast quantities and these 90 yr old guns that have survived today are treasured in  collections throughout the world.

Above the Crown X proofs and the Army Test Proof which also appears on the breach block. The estimated procurement of these commercial army is estimated at only 100 Lugers. This makes this a rare model for the Imperial collector.

This is very a well maintained gun with the long sear, factory original hold open device and checkered un-numbered grips. The Luger has a stock lug which distinguishes it from the 1908 Commercial Military (in addition to the serial number series). There is minimal wear on the side plate and the front of the side rails, otherwise this Luger is minty.

The Parabellum offered is an all-matching 1914 Commercial Military with a five digit serial number and the Crown X DWM Proofs with the Army Test Proof on the right of the receiver, barrel and left of the breach block. This is an excellent example of a one of one hundred procured from DWM by the Imperial Army.
