This is a 1941 Chamber dated Mauser Banner built for commercial sale and privately purchased a high SS (Schutzstaffel) official. This is known as a vary rare Banner Black Widow because of the black Bakelite grips and magazine bottom. Serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style. The thumb safety is marked "Gesichert" and extractor "Geladen." This example has all matching numbers. It comes with two matching magazines, a proofed loading tool and a SS Leader Belt, Buckle and chest strap, in marvelous condition. (1413) |

Mauser began manufacture of the Commercial Parabellum in the "v" suffix series, picking up from where DWM serial numbered frames left off. but the switch to the Mauser Tonne or Barrel Logo [The logo represents a barrel of gun of gun powder. The term "Banner" has been a misnomer by collectors. Walther had a "Banner" type Logo while Mauser commercial guns had the Barrel represented by varying staves of lines during its production. In 1939 Mauser began the seven stave logo at the 8900v series and carried it to the end. |

This is a 1934 Model Pistole 08 military gun manufactured by Mauser in 1941. This Parabellum is a 4 inch (100 mm) barrel in 9mmx19mm made on the "short frame" with short sear. This Luger is offered with the entire rig (see above) for a SS Senior Official. This is a "rig" that was brought back by an foot soldier from WWII. |

This is a rare variation of the Banner series in 1941. Not only were there less than 500 "Banners" but these were not Parabellums that were "parts" guns from military surplus. Note that there is no P08 on the left side of the frame. Among those few manufactured even fewer had the black grips and black magazine of the collector named Black Widow Luger.

Serial number placement is in the military (exposed) style. This example has all matching numbers including two matching Type III FXO magazines. The barrel is numbered and matches the frame. Collectors refer to this model as 1934 to represent the year that Mauser created the machinery for their production run of the Luger. So this 1941 dated 1934 Model is an commercial Mauser variation and excellent example of the craftsmanship of Mauser even during wartime. This variation is report to be one of five hundred made by Mauser. |

Mausers entry into the "y" suffix block began with a four digit 1941 date until 600y of which these guns are known sear-safety police marked Eagle L. From 601y until 1221y it is recorded that Mauser used a two digit "41" date and except for a small block in the 800y-950y which were not police marked, no sear safety and with black grips and FXO magazines. At the 8000y point the '42" date began. It is written by Hallock & van de Kant in The Mauser Parabellum that there were approximately 631 while other sources place it at 500. In any case a very desirable variation of an extremely difficult Luger to find. |

The right side does not display any military proof or acceptance stamps on the barrel. Nor is there the Eagle L proof of the police. This is truly in a very small batch of commercial Black Widows.

This is a beautiful example of a 1941 fully matching dated Mauser Banner 9mm with two matching magazines, a 1941 dated holster, an E655 proofed tool and a SS Party Leaders Belt with chest strap. Truly a great rig for the advanced collectors. Questions to Josef@phoenixinvestmentarms.com |

It is entirely subjective to give any Luger a rating of excellent or fine, just as it is to declare it xx% blued or strawed. Few Lugers are out of the box new and these are premium priced. Bluing percentages is like Beauty, in the eye of the beholder. We strive to provide pictures so you can judge for yourself if the gun meets your criteria. This particular rig is stunning in appearance and must have been captured within a non-combat environment. |

The holster is in excellent shape with flexible leather and original white stitching. It has the manufactures mark, the Waffenamt proof and the 1941 date. The stitching is all in white indicating it wasn't dyed or "shoe polished" [which harms the leather] and is all original.

Truly a clean commercial gun that was purchased either privately or through the SS procurement system for a senior official, this gun is a classic and one of the only three Black Widow models that has no military acceptance proofs and represents the true commercial craftsmanship of Mauser.

The barrel is matched to the gun with the "y" suffix stamped in the frame. The serial number placement is in the military ("exposed") style. The serial number appears on the front of the frame, on the side of the locking bolt, on the trigger, on the bottom of the barrel, the side plate, the left side of the receiver, the safety bar, the sear bar, the rear connecting pin, and on the extractor. |

![]() The Mauser Banner Logo underwent several changes during its lifetime with the settlement of the eight stave "Barrel Look" on the Luger production. Right: The E655 Loading tool that matches the proof on the barrel. |

In 1910 Mauser Barrel was 20 staves, by 1914 it was 14 staves and in 1934 on the K Date Navy it was none. With the new commercial Lugers beginning in 1939 the 8 staves barrel was adopted but there were exceptions throughout the serial number ranges so no "rule" remains today.

Clean and well cared for both during and after the war this is one of the best 1937 Lugers we have seen. Matched with a dated holster and Party Leader belt/buckle and chest strap make this a prize to anyone's collection. This is a war-time battlefield souvenir that has seen at least three continents and still remains in excellent shape as a testimony to the craftsman that created it and the Deutscher Soldat who cared for his weapon and the good home it found after the war. Note there is no military P08 on this "41" side frame. |

The extractor [GELADEN - Loaded] rises above the breach block to both visually and by feel (in the dark) that the gun is loaded and ready for action. The right side shows the Commercial Oberndorf proof characteristic of the Mauser Commercial guns. On the Barrel we can see the E655 which puts a military test proof on the otherwise civilian gun and the loading tool matches the Eagle 655 finalizing it's 1941 dating as correct. |

The first toggle link is marked with the Banner Mauser code, this was one of four logos that Mauser used during the war; S/42, 42, byf and the Banner. There is the "V" rear sight on the rear toggle link and the last two digits of the serial number appear. |

The rear main axel pin was numbered to the gun by a 1933 order. You can also see the 2mm addition to the frame which denotes the Mauser "Hump" to protect the rear main axel pin in full recoil and a Mauser made modification. On the right is illustrated the Eagle 655 on the barrel and the Eagle N (Nitro) proof of the Oberdorf proof house, also required by law. |
